Day 3 – 22nd June – Welches to Kah-nee-ta

Jun 23, 2016 | USA | Across North America

65 miles ridden – 4,892 feet climbed.

We had a slightly earlier start today as over the first 12 miles we needed to climb to Government Camp in the foothills of Mount Hood at an elevation of 3995 feet. It wasn’t particularly steep – just long. As with yesterday sections of it were A40 like with loads of trucks and RVs and us cycling on a hard shoulder usually 3 feet wide with only a third useable due to debris so again single file. Actually I have decided that it isn’t like the A40, it’s like the A12 between junction 28 of the M25 and where our new bolthole is in Suffolk. Great!!!!

Of course, it wasn’t all bad. We had some pretty spectacular views on the last 16 miles through the Warm Springs Indian reservation to the Kah-nee-ta resort.

Slightly shorter day tomorrow and slightly cooler – we finished today in low 30s which is warm! P20 protection is working well! Really missing everyone at home.
