Day 13 – 10 July 2026 – Wallsee to Weissenkirchen.

Jul 10, 2026 | Moselle to Mozart

55 miles ridden- 171m climbed – temperature 27C (minimum 18C maximum 37C).

Another beautiful day – warm sunshine, not too hot, and a gentle wind as we headed along the Danube to our next stop in Weissenkirchen. First brew was at a delightful spot where we could drink coffee and eat cake in the shade in front of the river.

Like most days we occasionally diverged from the river to cut off an excessive loop, skirt around industrial areas, or seek out a suitable bridge over one of the many small rivers and tributaries which flow into the Danube.

As you can see the cycle path surface is fabulous. Here the cycleway is shared with local residents who seem comfortable for us to be there. There were a LOT of cyclists out riding today. Many were part of e-bike touring groups and looking at most of them it’s easy to see why they need e-bikes!

We had another fabulous picnic lunch today just outside a village called Pöchlarn. It was delightful to sit and enjoy a leisurely lunch together. Everyone is now fully cycle fit (ironic that tomorrow is the last day!) and there is no pressure to get to the end so we tend to sit and chat more than we did in the early days. After lunch we headed off to our afternoon stop which was only 8 miles down the river at a town called Melk.

We left the bikes on the route with one of our guides and took a wander in to the town where four of us sat and enjoyed a drink. Nice as the town was it was full of tourists and reminded me of the town in Frozen (obviously hot without snow).

We had another 10 miles further to go before we had to catch a cable ferry across the river to Spitz. The ferry worked well despite looking like it was made from Meccano and wood.

Only a couple of miles from the ferry was our destination – Hotel Kirchenwirt. This is a lovely little town surrounded my vineyards and apricot orchards. There are a lot of apricot based drinks, main courses and deserts here. Great if you like apricots!!!

Tomorrow is our last day with 60 miles further to flat run into Vienna. What a trip this has been.
