It’s May – it’s Club La Santa time

I’m not sure what the weather is like in the U.K. at the moment but it’s nice and warm here in Lanzarote. Sue and I are enjoying our first of 2019’s visits to our favourite playground and with sunny skies and high 20s Celsius it’s easy to have fun.

Of course I’ve been doing morning gymnastics by the leisure pool followed by a run – it makes breakfast taste even better. And then there’s the cycling.

Rather than use the free bikes I have rented a Cannondale (SuperSix EVO) for the week which allows me to go out when I like rather than in the allotted slots. I haven’t done any long rides as there are many other things I want to do and the scenery is somewhat ‘same-y’. It certainly isn’t the Chiltern Hills and there aren’t any cake stops.

It is however great training because either route out of Club La Santa involves a hill and Lanzarote is very windy so I reckon 30ish mile routes here are like 60 miles in Suffolk especially if it’s only an hour after running.

Yesterday after running, cycling, and swimming I did a CrossFit class. CrossFit is like an intense mixed weights and cardio gym session and given that Club La Santa’s CrossFit area is the only one in the World right next to a 400m running track I should have been more wary than I was! Our last segment was 40 ball slams (a 15kg medicine ball lifted off the ground to full height above your head and slammed down onto the ground) followed by a 400m run. Not so bad you may think but we had to do 4 repetitions….

Weather permitting I have my first Century ride (100 miles) this Sunday. I will either be ready for it or immobile.
