Day 5 – 13 June – Crozant to Aubusson

Jun 13, 2018 | France | Channel to the Med

56 miles ridden – 4450 feet climbed – temperature 18C (chilly)

It took us a while to come together this morning as we were spread across 3 hotels. In fact we didn’t really congregate until lunchtime except for one poor soul whose navigation device failed him miserably and although we know the crew were in touch we didn’t see him all day.

Mercifully we had no rain today but it was quite overcast and cold compared to the first few days. The terrain was constantly undulating although we did have a few decent long climbs to contend with.

No one was in a rush. It was a short day and we were warned that the hotels would not be able to give us rooms much before 15:00. There was lots of meandering, bike tweaking and church visiting. We crossed over the bridge and then climbed up to Anzeme to visit the church pictured below

Sue and I were fully coordinated today – it was noted by many.

We had another picnic lunch today, the main difference between today and yesterday being that today it was cold, breezy and we were on the top of a hill. The food was good though.

We left our lunch stop in St Fiel and followed very quiet roads as we weaved our way though a network of backroads. The route planning was pretty impressive today as we were never far away from ‘civilisation’ or larger roads but didn’t encounter much impact from either.

Our second tea stop was by the river at Moutier d’Ahun, Very picturesque and peaceful.

Tonight we are staying in Aubusson which is absolutely heaving compared to most of the places we have been through. Aside from a bus attempting to go through a gap that was clearly too narrow and scraping down the entire side of a car I’m not quite sure that referring to it as an arse, however incorrectly spelt is fair.
