Rest Day – Siena

Jun 3, 2017 | Italy | Mountains to Venice

0 miles ridden – 0 feet climbed although walking around Siena it doen’t feel like it.

Woke up and lay there – no need to move – no early breakfast – no lycra – just lie and enjoy. It’s the simple luxuries in life that make the difference. After a leisurely breakfast we wandered up into the centre and took in the major sights while constantly looking for cool, shady places for a quiet coffee. It certainly is a beautiful place:

However it is a bustling city full of tourists, taxis, and buses all competing for space in the twisting narrow streets so after a while it becomes less appealing for a rest day. So after two coffee stops, lunch, and a further coffee and ice cream stop we went back to our hotel on the edge of town which has a fabulous view:

There was a notable non-cycling event for Sue yesterday. As we sat waiting for the coach Terry (third from right) in a display of bravado and considerable manliness  gave Heather a fireman’s lift.

Impressive you may think but then in a fit of pique he decided to extended the display to Sue who is differently framed.

It was the first time Sue had ever been lifted like this. While Sue thoroughly enjoyed it, Terry was a little light-headed and Julie was totally unimpressed as she’s ‘seen it all before’.

It isn’t all about cycling……..
