Day 28 – 17th July – Rest Day in Sioux Falls

Jul 17, 2016 | USA | Across North America

0 miles ridden – 0 feet climbed.

Great nights sleep and even though I woke at 5:30 I didn’t need to quickly get up and pack my stuff up for early breakfast.

I decided that I didn’t want the usual hotel breakfast of raisin bran, gloopy yogurt and a semi-stale bagel so thanks to TripAdvisor I went to The Original Pancake House about a mile down the road for hot pancakes. By 10am I had cleaned my bike, made phone calls, and was ready for retail therapy which I enjoyed.

The rest of the day has been leisurely to say the least. There’s a crowd of us going out to dinner this evening at the (Sioux) Falls themselves although we will still have an early night before tomorrow’s ride to Worthington in Minnesota.

The next few states – Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Ontario (in Canada) are much smaller than the states we have been through and we are going to see more trees, dairy farms, and a lot more towns. Our next rest day will be spent on a 4 hour cruise across Lake Michigan from Wisconsin to Michigan so lots to look forward to.

We have been on the road for four weeks today and cycled over 2000 miles. In three weeks and one day I will see finally see Sue albeit in a car park with 40 other cyclists but that is a thought that will keep me going big time.

Thanks to everyone who has been sending me messages. Your encouragement and kind words keep me motivated and smiling.

How nice of them to name a waterfall after your wife – even if they did spell it wrong 🙂 and how sweet to know you are counting down the days to seeing her! Keep up the good work – sounds like the next part of your trip will be fun. x

It is 275 days since I posted part 1 and at least once per day ever since I have spent time wondering exactly what to say. I lived a 25 year old dream. It was every euphoric and every dull moment crammed into an 8 week journey although as many of you will recall the...
