Day 9 – 28th June – Rest day in Boise, Idaho

Finally I slept decently – about 6 hours. More importantly it was good, calm sleep.

Breakfast was a bit disconcerting however as firstly it was at 8am and secondly no one was wearing Lycra but the food was really good. After that many of us congregated in the lobby for coffee before my third trip to the bike shop where again I exhibited immense control but only because they didn’t have my size in stock.

It was hot again today. By 11am the signs were showing 84F although it was noticeably more bearable in the shade and being careful to walk slowly I surprised myself at how non-sweaty I stayed. I know many of you cannot imagine me not sweating in that kind of heat.

Lots more discussions today about how we were coping and changes needed and/or desired to our bikes. Dedication to our steeds extended to a good cleaning and lubrication session in the sunshine at 2PM with more discussions about good bits and bad bits both past and yet to come. It was made clear that we did not want to discuss bad bits!

The next few days are expected to have peak temperatures around 100F/38C (normally hits around 5PM) but at least tomorrow we can hopefully be at our hotel by 1PM or so. The next day is longer but in line with my new strategy as it’s not tomorrow it doesn’t matter.

So, a very social day with a bit of walking,  and a lot of eating and drinking. As a treat I had two coffees – the joy of not having to find a tree or bush! However, highlights were two FaceTime calls with Sue and calls with my Mum, Simon,Bruce, and Jon.

Feeling good right now. Hope it lasts past breakfast and all the way to our next destination of Mountain Home.
