Day 6 – 25th June – John Day to Baker City

Jun 26, 2016 | blog, USA | Across North America

82 miles ridden – 4805 feet climbed.

Most people found today harder than yesterday even though it was less distance and marginally less climbing and everyone was suffering. The scenery was fabulous and the roads about as quiet as we had seen so the views kind of made up for the climbs. A few opictures below but the battery on my camera was dead so it’s only iPhone stuff.

I am still affected by either a torn muscle or trapped nerve in my right buttock so have been riding primarily with 3 others – Heather and Murray from Adelaide in Australia and Darin Cote from Texas – who have a nice steady pace and are interesting people to talk to. It was very cold again first thing but over the course of the day it warmed to arounbd 30C by the time we arrived here in Baker City.

I am really pleased with the training I did – the buttock issue happened ‘powering’ up a long 4 mile climb so nothing to do with training – I seem (so far) to be able to get up each morning, get on with it and keep going. Food is a bit of a challenge but the snacks at the SAG stops fill in the gaps.

Despite climbing 3 peaks today only one had a summit sign showing the height – see below.
